Hawassa University, University of Limerick, Sign MoU for Collaboration.

Representatives of Hawassa University, Ethiopia and University of Limerick, Ireland, discussed and signed Memorandum of Understanding for Collaboration on Sustainable Development and Agrifood Systems Transformation on January 8, 2023.

Dr. Ayano Beraso, President of HU and Prof. Nigel Healey representing the University of Limerick, both expressed mutual interest of both institutions in exploring and developing collaborations focused on sustainable development, with a particular emphasis on agrifood systems transformation.

The agreement represents a shared vision and commitment to collaborate towards impactful and sustainable solutions in innovative and sustainable agricultural practices. The agreement was facilitated by Regenerators Ireland which is established between the two institutions.

Dr. Ayano mentioned during the discussion with officials and researchers of both universities that agriculture is one of the top priority areas of research of HU and agrifood systems remains among the top priority areas to jointly work with partners. In addition, representatives from both universities expressed their willingness to explore and evaluate the potential for further collaborations including joint research initiatives, knowledge exchange, cultural and staff/student exchange programs, development of shared educational resources, and exploration of funding opportunities related to sustainable development and agrifood systems transformation.

Finally, Dr. Ayano Beraso and Professor Nigel Healey signed the agreement on behalf of Hawassa university and the University of Limericks, respectively.
