Farm Africa Delivers Landscape Change Tracking System to HU

Farm Africa organised an official handover workshop for a newly developed Realtime Landscape Change Tracking System in collaboration with Hawassa University to be used by Wondo Genet College of Forestry & Natural Resources (WGCFNR), HU.

Dr. Gudina Legese, Head of Programs at FA, welcomed the participants where he highlighted on his organisation as a UK based NGO working for 37 years in Ethiopia and 40 years in Africa. He said that Farm Africa started its partnership with HU and Haramaya with the aim of collaboration on cutting edge technologies in agriculture and life science s, working across five African countries at the moment.

Dr. Gudina mentioned that a 20 years long collaboration with WGCFNR at HU as knowledge partner of Farm Africa because it's a very capable and reliable governmental institution to sustain the initiatives, and HU has a very resourceful ICT professionals and infrastructure as enabling factors.

Dr. Chirotaw Ayele, President of HU, officiated the workshop where he pledged continued support and collaboration on issues relevant for SDGs and climate change mitigation and beyond. He sincerely appreciated the impactful contributions of Farm Africa in this regard and called on all stakeholders to unite efforts for better posterity.

Mr. Addisu Bole, a computer scientist and project lead from WGCFNR, presented what the technology does and how it is going to benefit users. He explained that the system developed by his department and ICT Directorate of HU is landscape change explorer to help informed decision-making for non-GIS or non-ICT professional leaders by just clicking on the system from thier convenient location already tested on Bale Eco Region (BER).
