Hawassa University has successfully hosted the first IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam session on 24 and 25 November, 2023 at the Main Campus.

This marks that the recently established IELTS Registration Center for the British Council at Hawassa University has become operational and able to provide IELTS exam related services to the university community, and fourteen (14) applicants were able to take their IELTS exam at Hawassa University for the first time.

The exam administration team from British Council Ethiopia were satisfied and happy to see that Hawassa University is able to successfully host the first IELTS exam session fulfilling the IELTS exam administration standards.

Similarly, applicants were happy for being able to take the IELTS test at Hawassa University which helped them to avoid extra costs related to travel and accommodation if they needed to travel to Addis Ababa as before.

English Language Improvement Center (ELIC) at the university has co-facilitated the overall candidate registration, promotion, and exam administration process in collaboration with the British Council team and the various concerned offices of Hawassa University, mainly the Department of English Language and Literature and the College of Social Sciences and Humanities.

As Dr. Mihireteab Abraham who is the Coordinator of ELIC mentioned, the Department of English Language and Literature, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Office of Vice President for Administration and Development, Office of the President, Office of External Relations and Communication, Transport Directorate, Education and Training Directorate, and Campus Police Office of Hawassa University played a significant role for the successful execution of the exam. Without the support of these offices, he said, the mission would not be accomplished succesfully. He also mentioned that the next round of IELTS exam session at HU will be conducted at the end of February 2024 or beginning of March 2024.
