Study in the UK, Chevening Information Session, Hawassa University.

A team from Chevening scholarship program of the British Embassy in Ethiopia led by Mr. Robert Key and Miss Wedasse Teklemicheal held information session at Africa Union Hall, Hawassa University.

Dr. Emebet Bekele, Director General of External relations and communication office at HU, welcomed the team and expressed her gratitude for choosing Hawassa University to disseminate such a valuable information for the staff and students. Dr. Emebet also mentioned the fact that the staff and students of Hawassa University will benefit from such opportunities as a strategy of capacity building through scholarships and intercultural exchanges. She also expressed her gratitude to the British Embassy in Ethiopia for being such a valuable partner with HU where she mentioned some of the recent collaborations on University Peace Education and IELTS Exam centre launched at HU with the British Council Ethiopia.

Mr. Robert Key from political unit of the British Embassy explained to the audience that Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government's global scholarship programme, funded by Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organizations. He added that the scholarships support one year taught Masters degrees at UK universities for individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision makers and influencers.

Ms. Wedasse Teklemicheal, Chevening Program Officer at the embassy, also provided valuable information about the numerous opportunities including the purpose and benefits of Chevening Scholarship, applicants and eligibility criteria as well as the application's timeline available for Masters degree in the UK. Moreover, two Cheveners from Ethiopia had joined the session online to share their firsthand experiences of the Chevening Scholarship they're enjoying at the moment. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and the team and Cheveners offered insightful responses.

Applications for Chevening Scholarships to study in the UK are open between 12 September and 7 November 2023. Applications are to be submitted via the online application form at chevening.org/apply
