e-SHE project implementation

A Team from MoE holds discussion with HU officials on e-SHE project implementation.

In collaboration with international and national partners, the Ministry of Education is implementing a five-year project named "e-Learning for Strengthening Higher Education" (e-SHE) which has an overall aim of enabling the 50 public universities teach their courses in blended and online modalities. The project is anticipated to: improve educational quality, increase access to higher education, and create more access to teach international students.

To this end, a team of professionals and project managers from MoE held a discussion session with HU officials on ways of the e-SHE project implementation of cloud-based e-learning platforms for the fifty universities, and the work in progress to establish five Multimedia Studios including one for Hawassa University. It was also pointed out that the project has a target of training 35,000 instructors on online teaching and equipping 800,000 students with digital learning skills.

In 2023, the e-SHE project has a plan to train 336 instructors from Hawassa University in Master class for online teaching (MCT) from Arizona State University, and a total of 12,304 students are targets to get trained in Student suits – a digital literacy training. The team explained that the MCT training will enable instructors to teach online, to develop quality digital course contents, and give instructors an opportunity to undertake further Training of Trainers (ToT) and become certified trainers for future MCT trainings offered locally.

Dr. Ing. Fisiha Getachew, Vice President for Academic Affairs of HU, extended his gratitude to the visitors and MoE for designing this timely project aimed at empowering the actors in Ethiopian academia.
