College of Agriculture Conducts an Internal Curriculum Review Workshop

Hawassa University College of Agriculture organized the workshop to make an internal review on the developed curricula under the school of animal and range sciences and faculty of environment, gender, and development studies.

The curriculum review workshop opened on 26th June 2021 to evaluate the curricula of the four Ph.D. programs (PhD in Livestock Science and Production, PhD in Agricultural Economics, PhD in Dairy Science and Technology, and PhD in Animal Biotechnology) at an internal level. With regard to this, the significant contribution and great role of the School Directors (Dr. Sintayehu Yigrem, Director, School of Animal and Range Sciences; Mr. Zerihun Ganewo, Director, Faculty of Gender, Environment and Development Studies) are highly appreciated.

Dr. Tarekegn Yoseph, Dean, College of Agriculture, welcomed the speaker of the day, distinguished guests, and other participants following the introduction part. As his explanation, training the competent, efficient, and skilled personnel capable of transforming the existing Livestock and Agricultural Resources into a vibrant economic system is very important to strengthen the sector of agriculture constrained by several factors visible at the country level. Therefore, according to him, these programs play their role in contributing the knowledge-, skill-, and attitude-targeted competencies that enable graduates who will train under these programs.

Dr.Ing. Fisseha Getachew, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Hawassa University, made an opening speech and explained the importance of the curricula review in the area. It is a necessary step at a university level to broaden research areas since Hawassa University is differentiated as a research university, and at the country, level to contribute much to economic development.

The presenters, in their turn, emphasized the background and rationale of each program, justifications for its launching, objectives to attain at the end, and professional profiles expected after completion of each program.

Finally, the participants were actively involved in suggesting and forwarding valuable comments during the discussion session.
