Hawassa University hosts a workshop in collaboration with Campus France

Hawassa University hosts a workshop in collaboration with Campus France Tour for its Masters and PhD students and staff intending to provide information on scholarships, Mobility programs and experience sharing with a guest who studied the PhD program in France.

Mr. Yohanan Yokamo, a Director of International Relations and Alumni Affairs Directorate, Hawassa University, introduced the program to and welcomed the participants at its beginning. Also, he informed the participants that the Campus France Tour was held in Ethiopia for two years by this conference is to introduce the French Higher education system and providing information on scholarships and mobility programs in France and Europe.

Dr. Eng. Fisiha Getachew, Vice President for Academic Affairs, in his welcoming speech, said that Hawassa University is one of the few research universities in the nation with seven campuses which comprises nine colleges and three institutes. Within these colleges, we run 256 academic programs in different disciplines offering bachelor, master's, and PhD degrees. He stated that the workshop focusing on scholarship and mobility Program opportunities for Hawassa University staff and students is imperative to the development of the University, and staff and Students. Further, he emphasized that, as part of Hawassa University's strategy, the university will make further collaborations with concerned France Institutions to open, first, a French language training center, and then after, a French Language department at Hawassa University.

Moreover, as Dr. Fiseha, we have nearly 43,000 students who study in the Regular and Continuing Education Programs and 2200 academic staff. He added that Higher Education all over the world have experienced that massive expansion during a short period is usually associated with a comprise in the quality of education given to the students, and currently, as depicted in our 10 years strategic plan, we gave more attention to programs relevance and priority is given to enhance quality education and research.

A Project Officer for higher Education and Campus France Ethiopia, Manager Mrs. Sofia Nicée Samba, in her presentation, said that Campus France is a national agency that helps international students achieve their educational goals promoting French Higher Education, and developing human capacity in France. Mrs. Sofia added that Campus France has 260 offices in more than 127 countries that support students with information, guidance, and providing a quality experience for international students. Finally, she invites the participants and said that the embassy of France and Campus France Ethiopia is pleased to bring Ethiopian students to meet leading French Institutes and Universities in Ethiopia and warmly invited the participants to join it accordingly. The event, as she said, would gather representatives of Ethiopian higher institutes and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the event to be held btween 11th and 13th of Oct. 2021 is provides a unique opportunity to connect with between French institutes, management, public universities, and specialized schools.

Dr. Tewodros Meles who is an assistant professor at the Institute of Technology, Hawassa University has shared his experience acquired during his Ph.D. study in France at the Université de Strasbourg with the participants of the program. 

Finally, the presenters and chairperson made concluding remarks they recognized the presentations and interactions were very fruitful.
