Hawassa University has organized a Contemporary Conference with the theme of "The Role of Stakeholders for Democratic and Peaceful Election concerning the 6th National Election of Ethiopia''.

Vice President for Hawassa University Research & Technology Transfer, Dr. Tafesse Matiwos, and Dean of College of Law and Governance, Dr. Debrework Debebe, have introduced the conference with its coverage to the audience.

The President of Hawassa University, Dr. Ayano Berasso, has welcomed all the guests and made an opening speech stating that many stakeholders have a crucial role to make the coming 6th national election peaceful, democratic and legitimate. He further emphasized that a democratic system enables different views, ideas, and policies to be entertained.

Three keynote speeches have been presented virtually by different speakers: HE Mr. Fisseha Yitagesu (Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, with the rank of State Minister), HE. Dr. Samuel Kifle (State Minister, Ministry of Science and Higher Education), and HE Prof. Yonas Geda (A Professor and Director in Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, USA). All the keynotes have forwarded their thanksgiving to Hawassa University for organizing such a contemporary conference related to Election. Further, they emphasized that every one of us should play our role to make the 6th National Election a peaceful election for all.

Then two presentations were held by HU Legal, Political, and Governance A/Professors. The first presenter, Assistant Professor Yosef Watte has presented a paper entitled "Historical perspectives of Election in Ethiopia". The presenter has discussed the past elections in Ethiopia and the lesson to be taken from the previous five elections in Ethiopia. The second presenter, Assistant Professor Shimelis Ashagire has presented a paper entitled "Stakeholders role and Challenges of the 6th National Election of Ethiopia". The presenter has raised challenges related to the coming election and stated that political parties and voters should know their rights and duties and the government authorities should enforce laws governing. Further, he required authorities to follow Covid-19 Protocols during the election.

The participants have participated from different institutions, i.e. SNNPR Authority, and Sidaama N/R/State Authority, Religion Leaders, and Federal Security offices, in the conference.

ግንቦት 3 ቀን 2013 ዓ.ም የፓናል ውይይቱንና የምክክር መድረኩን በሀዋሳ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የምር/ቴክ/ሽግ/ም/ፕ/ጽ/ቤት እና የሕግና ገቨርናንስ ኮሌጅ በጋራ በመሆን ያዘጋጁ ሲሆን ውይይቱ በአካል እና በበይነመረብ ተካሂዷል።  

በዕለቱ የመክፈቻ ንግግር ያደረጉት የዩኒቨርሲቲው ፕሬዝዳንት ዶ/ር አያኖ ባሪሶ በሀገራችን የምርጫ ስርዓት በህገመንግስት ተደንግጎ ከወጣው ከ1923 ዓ.ም ጀምሮ ያለውን የምርጫ ሂደት በዳሰሱበት ወቅት በንጉሱ  ዘመነ መንግስት ህዝቡ የራሱን መሪ የማይመርጥበት እና "ስዩመ እግዚአብሔር" የተባለ መለኮታዊ ስርዓትን ይከተሉ የነበረ ሲሆን በደርግ ዘመነ መንግስት ደግሞ የአንድ ፓርቲ ስርዓት የነበረበት መሆኑን ገልጸዋል።  በኢህአዴግ ዘመነ መንግስት አንፃራዊ መሻሻል የተስተዋለ እና የመድብለ ፓርቲ ስርዓት የተዘረጋ ቢሆንም የሚካሄዱ ምርጫዎች ነፃ እና ዴሞክራሲያዊነታቸው ላይ ከፍተኛ ችግር ነበረባቸው ብለዋል። ላለፍፉት በርካታ ዓመታት የተካሄደው ምርጫ በየወቅቱ የነበሩ መንግስታት ለራሳቸው በሚመች አኳኋን ሲያካሂዱት የነበረ ሲሆን በዚህም የተነሳ የዳበረ የዴሞክራሲ ባህል መገንባት አለመቻሉን አውስተዋል። አክለውም ከፊታችን ያለው 6ኛው ሀገራዊ ምርጫ ብዙ እድሎችንና ፈተናዎች የያዘ እንደመሆኑ የሚመለከታቸው ባለድርሻ አካላት ለምርጫው በሰላም መጠናቀቅና በብዙዎች ዘንድ የተሰነቀውን የዴሞክራሲ ተስፋ የሚያመጣ እንዲሆን በትኩረት እንዲሰሩ መልዕክታቸውን አስተላልፈዋል። ዩኒቨርሲቲው የሀገራዊ ምርጫው ውጤታማነት ይመለከተኛል በማለት የተለያዩ ባለድርሻ አካላትን አሳትፎ ይህንን አውደ ጥናት ያካሄደ መሆኑን የገለፁት ፕሬዝዳንቱ ሌሎች ዩኒቨርሲቲዎችም ይህንን ተሞክሮ በመውሰድ ንቁ ተሳታፊ እንዲሆኑ አበረታተዋል።

የሳይንስ እና የከፍተኛ ትምህርት ሚኒስትር ዴኤታው ዶ/ር ሳሙኤል ክፍሌ በቪዲዮ ኮንፈረንስ ባስተላለፍት መልዕክት ቀደም ሲል በሀገሪቱ ይካሄዱ የነበሩ ምርጫዎች ስለነበሩባቸው ክፍተቶች ከገለፁ በኃላ የዘንድሮው ሀገራዊ ምርጫ ከእነዚህ ስህተቶች እርምትን በመውሰድ የዴሞክራሲ ትንሳኤን ያበስር ዘንድ የብዙ ምሁራን መፍለቅያና መገኛ የሆኑት ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች ዓይነተኛ ሚና መወጣት ይጠበቅባቸዋል ብለዋል።

በሚኒስትር ዴኤታ ማዕረግ በጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ጽ/ቤት የፖለቲካ ጉዳዮች አማካሪ የሆኑት አቶ ፍስሀ ይታገሱ በቪዲዮ ኮንፍረንስ ባስተላለፉት መልዕክት የዘንድሮ ሀገራዊ ምርጫ ስኬታማ ይሆን ዘንድ መንግስት በቁርጠኝነት እየሰራ መሆኑን ገልፀው ምርጫውን ለማስተጓጎል በሀገር ውስጥም ሆነ ከባህር ማዶ ካሉ ሀይሎች የሚሰነዘሩ ተግዳሮቶችን በጋራ ማለፍ እንደሚገባ ጠቅሰው የተፎካካሪ ፓለቲካ ፓርቲዎችም በሀገሪቱ ከዚህ በፊት በስፋት ከተለመደው የሴራ ፖለቲካ ተላቀው በሀሳብ የበላይነት ብቻ አሸናፊ ለመሆን እንዲሰሩ እንዲሁም የፀጥታ እና የፍትህ ተቋማት በገለልተኝነት ስራቸውን እንዲያከናውኑ ጥሪ አስተላልፈዋል።

የፓናል ውይይቱና የምክክር መድረክ ላይ በአካል እና በበይነመረብ በርካታ አካላት ተሳታፊዎች ሲሆኑ የተፎካካሪ ፖለቲካ ፓርቲዎች ተወካዮችም ተሳትፈው ለባለድርሻ አካላቱ መልዕክት አስተላልፈዋል፡፡ በውይቱም ከፍትሀዊነት፣ ከፀጥታ ጉዳዮች እና ከሴቶች ተሳትፎ አንጻር ለጋራ እንቅስቃሴ ረብ ያላቸው ገንቢ ሀሳቦች የተሰነዘሩ ሲሆን ተሳታፊዎች ሀላፊነት በተሞላበት መንፈስ የድርሻቸውን እንዲወጡና ለሀገራቸው ጉዳይ ማንኛውንም መሥዋዕት እንደሚከፍሉ ቃል ገብተው ኮንፍረንሱ አብቅቷል፡፡
