Delegates of the Netherlands Embassy visit RAISE-FS Project activities at HU.

A delegate from the Netherlands Embassy in Ethiopia, Hannah Haaij, First Secretary of Food & Nutrition Security and Cluster Coordinator on Climate, Water and FNS, and Tesfahun Alemayehu, Senior Policy Advisor to the Netherlands embassy visited the RAISE-FS Project activities at field level on September 3, 2024.

Hawassa University has been implementing a collaborative project ‘Resilient Agriculture for Inclusive and Sustainable Ethiopian Food Systems (RAISE-FS) since 2022 with the financial support from the Netherlands Embassy (NL) in Ethiopia. RAISE-FS (https://raise-fs.org) is a project designed with the goal to create evidence for practices that contribute to the transformation of food system by addressing leverage points in relation to productivity, enhanced value chain performance and improved human nutrition for improved food security while minimizing the impact on the environment and ensuring social inclusion.

During 2024, HU has been implementing Soybean and Haricot bean innovation scaling, small-scale poultry commercialization, black soldier fly larvae, and black soldier fly frass evaluation as a poultry feed, and organic fertilizer, respectively at Hawassa Zuria Woreda and on station.

During the field visit, the status of the ongoing activities and future plans of the implementation process were discussed while the delegate appreciated the efforts in place to assure the success of the project, the field performance of the scaling trials and the existing potentials to further out scale the innovations.
