Dr. Engineer Mulugeta Dadi Belete is a vibrant scholar at the Institute of Technology, Hawassa University, who is now promoted to a Professor of Hydrology on June 15, 2026.
Professor Mulugeta has built a robust academic and research foundation in Ethiopia, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1999 and Master of Science in Soil and Water Engineering in 2004, both from Alemaya University. He later culminated his study with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Hydrology from the University of Bonn, Germany, in 2013.
Professor Mulugeta's career bridges pioneering research, academic leadership, and practical field execution spanning over two decades. He is a hydrologist with specialized expertise in water resources engineering and management, ecohydrology, and nature-based solutions.

Additionally, Professor Mulugeta brings over ten years of experience as a part-time licensed consultant through his firm, MD Water Works and Environmental Protection Consulting. As a distinguished innovator and leading voice in his field, Professor Mulugeta Dadi is the author of the world-class publication Ecohydrology-Based Landscape Restoration: Theory and Practice (Routledge, 2024). He has further solidified his contributions to environmental stewardship by patenting a groundbreaking "Method of restoring degraded landscape using ecohydrological green-(semi) gray infrastructure" (Patent No. ET/U/2021/3895), licensed by the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority.
Professor Mulugeta Dadi has spearheaded numerous high-impact, international initiatives, serving as a principal investigator and coordinator for mega-projects such as the Ethio-Nature and Rapid Groundwater Resources Mapping (RGRM) grants.
Through his extensive academic tenure, project leadership, and his role as a senior advisor for the NGO Save the Nature (SAN), Prof. Mulugeta's foundational work continually bridges the gap between theoretical research and sustainable, community-based hydrological management.
He has also been recognized by Hawassa university as one of the top impactful collaborative grant wining scholars for two consecutive years.
