Review Workshop for Small-Scale Collaborative Research Projects Underway

The Collaborative Project Coordination Directorate at Hawassa University organized a workshop to review the outcomes of small-scale research projects funded by the Norwegian Government’s ICP-V program.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Mebratu Mulatu, Senior Advisor to the Vice President for Research and Collaboration, emphasized that diversifying research funding sources is a strategic priority as the university transitions toward an autonomous research institution. He noted that Hawassa University is currently managing more than 100 collaborative projects with international and local partners, all of which actively support the university’s mission. Prof. Mebratu extended his gratitude to the Norwegian Government for funding the ICP-V projects and thanked the coordinators for their efforts in organizing the review event.

According to Dr. Shemelis Nigatu, Director for Collaborative Project Coordination, a total of 71 research projects led by senior researchers - with involvement from postgraduate students - will be reviewed during the two days from April 30 to May 1, 2026. Dr. Shemelis further explained that these 71 small-scale research projects were sponsored during the 2023-24 period and have now reached completion. The Director reported that the outputs of these projects include published articles, manuscripts currently under review, policy briefs, and practical manuals developed directly from the research findings.
