Hawassa University Open Access Journals Capacity Building (HU-OAJ CB) Project Conducts Training for HU-OA journals Technical Staff

Office of the President for Research & Collaboration at Hawassa University, in collaboration with Hawassa University Open Access Journals Capacity Building (HU-OAJ CB) Project funded by the Netherlands government, organized a capacity-building training on Journal Website Management, ICT, Layout, and Copy Editing skills to strengthen the capacity of the HU-OA journals technical staff and improve the overall quality, visibility, and accessibility of scholarly publications.

Prof. Mebratu Mulatu, Coordinator of the project, emphasized the significance of the training in enhancing the professional competence of the editorial and technical teams of HU journals. He mentioned that the program was specifically designed to equip journal editors, ICT experts, layout and design professionals involved in scholarly publishing and journal management members. Prof. Mebratu further noted that the training would help journals identify and curb the existing challenges, improve the operational systems, and upgrade quality of publications using modern technological tools.


The training was delivered in three sessions: SESSION 1: HU-OA Journals’ Website Management, SESSION 2: Improving Layout and Copy-Editing Skills and SESSION 3: Using AI and Plagiarism Detecting tools (Turnitin).


The trainees also reflected on the need for continuous professional development opportunities to enhance the quality and visibility of Hawassa University journals.
