College of Medicine and Health Sciences was established in 1996G.C, as Health science Faculty, at the former Dilla college of Teacher Education and Health Sciences (DCTEHS) in Dilla. It moved to Hawassa with the existing infrastructure in 2003 G.C, by then, the College consists of two faculties namely Medical and Health science faculty.
The colleges is committed to training of high caliber healthcare professionals, conducting researches on emerging health challenge and provide quality health care, as well as policy formulation.The mission, vision, and core value of college place important part for research activity. It has changed its research approach to cater for problem-solving research outputs. Most of the research by HU CMHS has been conducted in the designated technology villages, health facilities and the communities.
The college under the two facultiesoffers wide range trainings both in undergraduate and post graduate programs. We have highly qualified, 435 academic staff working at different academic ranks, 1026 administrative staff, and 717 health professionals to cater for 2729 students. The College currently offers 14 undergraduate, 10 postgraduate, six specialty, and one PHD programs.
Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialize Hospital (HUCSH), which started health care delivery services in 2006, is a 400 bedded hospital which provides high quality service at both outpatient and inpatient level for about 20 million populations of the southern regions of the country.The HUCSH also serves as a training center for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and Health Science trainees.
