Start writing here...Hawassa University’s Institute of Technology (IoT), in collaboration with the NURTURE Project, hosted a high-level consultative workshop on "E-Learning for Engineering and Technology Education" on February 20, 2026.
The half-day event brought together experts, educators, and academic leaders to discuss the need and methods of digital course content development for the future of blended learning in engineering and technology fields of the Institute.
Dr. Mihret Dananto, Scientific Director of IoT, opened the session by emphasizing that digital transformation is an opportunity to be seized. He challenged his faculty members who are going to work as content developers to create digital materials that are "engaging, simple, and accessible" for all learners.

Professor Shegaw Mengiste (University of South Eastern Norway) shared insights on utilizing EdTech to ensure equity, quality, and inclusivity, drawing on successful models from neighboring countries.
Dr. Tesfu G. Fantaye, e-learning Director at Dire Dawa University, showcased how infrastructure development and staff capacity building efforts are already making blended learning a reality in his institution.
Anothwr speaker, Dr. Asmamaw Atinafu, demonstrated how institutional platforms can make education more user-friendly while significantly reducing costs and effort for both students and educators.
The workshop was concluded with a vibrant discussion moderated by Dr. Fantahun Moges, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, IoT, and Mr. Tegegn Gobena (Informatics Faculty Head).
This initiative is said to mark a major step forward in Hawassa University’s commitment to fostering a modern, flexible learning environment that prepares our engineering students for a digital world.
