Profiles for Streams (Focus Areas)

The program of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department has been carefully designed to enable and equip a graduate with the necessary tools in the field to enable him/her carry out his/her professional duties competently after graduation. The training in all the programs has a good mix of theoretical and practical components to produce graduates capable of fulfilling the trained man power needs of the country in the area and also makes them equally competent with graduates of other internationally recognized similar institutions. The program, in particular, prepares the graduates with the necessary interdisciplinary knowledge to use scientific technology in the analysis and/or design of electrical, electronic and computer systems that are employed in the country, currently or in the future. Moreover, it permits professionally oriented graduates to evaluate the applicability of new research findings to prepare them for professional practice and in particular to prepare them to contribute dynamically to the development of the country.

The following streams (focus areas) of ECEgg are identified as very important for the development of the country.

a) Communication Engineer

  • Foresight, planning and development of communication systems
  • Analyze, design, handle, supervise, and upgrade modern communication equipment and systems.
  • Manage and upgrade communication/telecommunication industries
  • Contribute towards the development in the country
  • Develop project proposal, design and implementation/management.

b) Electrical Power Engineer

  • Analyze and design electric power systems
  • Play key role in the automation of the power industries
  • Work towards expanding the power generation capacity of the country
  • Contribute towards solving the energy problem of the country
  • Participate in the assessment and development of renewable energy technologies for the national grid expansion as well as rural electrification efforts
  • Analyze and design protection systems for electrical and mechanical systems
  • Contribute towards the development in the country

c) Industrial Control Engineer

  • Understand, supervise, and upgrade industrial control equipment
  • Analyze and design microprocessor based control systems and algorithms
  • Play a key role in the automation of the country’s industries
  • Contribute in applied research in industrial control and instrumentation
  • Contribute towards the development in the country

d) Computer Engineer

  • Analyze, design and administer computer hardware and software systems and applications
  • Integrating and administering hardware and software systems
  • Work in rapidly changing career environment, analyzing problems with complete confidence, develop life-long learning, project management and ethical decision making and service to profession
  • Cope with the fast growing field and conduct research in the area
  • Contribute towards the development in the country
