Welcome to Hawassa University library website
This website will give an overview of the major services available, branches and their location, resources and related links to resources and partners of Hawassa University Libraries.
The Library and Documentation Services in Hawassa University are located in four campuses:
- Natural Science, Social Science and Technology Libraries (Main Campus)
- College of Forestry and Natural Resources Library (Wondogenet Campus)
- College of Agriculture Library (Piazza Campus)
- College of Health Science Library (Referral Campus)
Currently the library houses large number of volumes of materials in different forms. It utilizes DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification scheme) and AACR (Analog-American Cataloguing Rules) for classification of resources.

The system takes the benefit of online access to a range of International Journal databases. However, access is conditional on and limited to registration anywhere within the university network.
The acquisition of library materials are administered either through institutional budget or secured through individuals, donor agencies and similar educational and research institutions at home and overseas.
Though we have been using the traditional card-based method transaction system for a long time, we will be pleased to announce that branch libraries in the Main and Piazza Campuses have already embarked on an automated Web-based Library and Information System.
The platform we used to bring this automation into reality is an Open Source System named KOHA running on GNU/Linux operating system.
In addition to that the Library system is mid-way through different transformation processes and working on Business Process Reengineering.
Except on officially recognized public and national holidays, all libraries within the University are open 24 hours Monday to Sunday.
