MASTMO is a collaboration project which has been developed by

• Departments of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, Hawassa University, Ethiopia⁹

• Department of Mathematical Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway¹⁰

The project entitled "MSc Programme in Mathematical and Statistical Modeling". The aim of MASTMO is to establish a MSc programme in mathematical and statistical modelling at Hawassa University based on and linked to the existing Industrial Mathematics programme at NTNU.

MASTMO consists of two major activities:

• Qualification of HU faculty at NTNU (2008 - 2010)

• Implementation of the MSc programme at HU (2009 - 2012)

MASTMO is part of Norad's Programme for Master Studies¹¹ (NOMA). Office of International Relations¹² is NTNU's NOMA Coordinator.

The project has got a financial support of about 3.7 million NOK (6.0 million Birr) from the NORAD's Programme for Master Studies (NOMA) in October 2007. An amount of 200,000NOK was obtained last year for project development activities. Staff visits were made to both universities during the last academic year.

In connection to the collaboration between HU and NTNU, the Department of Mathematics at NTNU has recently donated 249 books on University Mathematics and Statistics to the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The books are believed to be of great significance in enhancing the teaching/learning in the discipline.
