The Establishment of Research Green House at Hawassa University by DIF
The university is establishing a green house with the financial support obtained from Development Initiative Fund (DIF), sponsored by the World Bank. The Green House has been constructed by the project entitled ‘Establishing Horticulture Nursery Unit' at Hawassa University. It constitutes a Research Green House,
Lath House and Tissue Culture. This establishment would address many problems regarding research undertakings in the university.
Among others, the green house is vital for biological experiments and other research activities which are undergoing at farm and research center, and it is expected to boost the research undertakings of the university when it is fully operational.
The Constructed Green House
-
Is using a state of the art technology in cooling, humidifying and ventilation,
-
100 % aluminum structure for durability and aesthetics,
-
Cladding used is of GE lexan Thermo clear sheet with 75% light transmission where the outside part of the this sheet has a special coating to prevent dirt from dust and rain etc.,
-
Anti slipper tiles floorin,
-
Features cooling pad, roof ventilation, PAR lamps (photosynthesis lamps), fogging and drip irrigate,
-
Each compartment is independently controlled for the above features having different temperature and humidity sensor which can control 24/7 with out any need of operator but only with the setting given for each controller,
-
One of the compartments is fitted with a growth room of different features and lighting system,
-
Independent buffer room and corridor to be used as an office/paper works as well as controlling room for all conditions any researcher want to create in each compartmen,
-
The first of its size and type in the country.
Under the project entitled, ‘Enhancement of Applied Physics Laboratory and Establishing Science Instrumental Center' DIF equipped the Physics Department with laboratories latest machines worth 843,136.00 Eth. Birr.
The machines include Lath Machine, Milling Machine, Radial Drilling Machine and Power full Lath Machine. The machines are multi functional and used by the students in the practical session activities, at the laboratories. This would enhance the teaching and learning process especially to nurture the practical knowledge of the students.
Generally DIF has sponsored different projects in the university for the purpose of enhancing the quality of education through upgrading laboratories, supplying equipments, sponsoring of staffs and others.
