Conference: International Academic Collaboration and Mobility
Internationalization is as an essential element of quality in teaching and research and academic mobility is a key element in internationalization. Through international exchange and international networks at academic, cultural, individual, and economic level, mobility will positively influence individuals, universities as well as societies. A high mobility of students, lecturers, scientists, and university personnel will give new impetuses for studies, teaching and research. Especially the exchange of scientific and didactic methods and new scientific knowledge will enhance academic competences and qualifications. Universities within the African setting still have deficits regarding mobility of academic staff as well as mobility of students.
The DAAD “Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies” (DIES) programme supports higher education institutions in developing countries to develop strategies, which improve the quality and relevance of the training offers. In the frame of DIES first steps towards academic mobility have been undertaken at Hawassa University, Ethiopia. An IRO was successfully established and South-South as well as North-South networks have been built.
Now, based on the established structures, ways to enhance student and academic mobility within the existing South-South and North-South networks have to be developed. Therefore, the common workshop of Hawassa University and Justus-Liebig-University “International Academic Collaboration and Mobility” will be held at Hawassa University in Hawassa, Ethiopia, September 24th 2010.
