Vision
The Corporate Communications and Marketing Directorate will portray the positive image brand of Hawassa University to all its stakeholder by providing, facilitating and maintaining up to date information in order to make Hawassa University globally connected and competitive.
Mission
To promote, enhance and develop a favourable image of HU, its facilities, products and expertise to all its stakeholders by utilizing and developing appropriate internal and external communication channels.
Aims
The Directorate aims to:
- support and promote positive communications within the university and mutually beneficial engagement with external stakeholders;
- manage and arrange events, activities and services that are important to the life, reputation and smooth running of the University; and
- provide an efficient, effective and high quality corporate publicity.
Objectives
The Directorate seeks to achieve its mission and aims by meeting the following objectives:
- To oversee the University’s corporate communication strategies;
- To understand and define the University’s essential characteristics and communicate them clearly and consistently;
- To promote the University’s activities and achievements and challenge misconceptions and misrepresentations where necessary;
- To assemble and disseminate internally information that is of interest and value to the university community, and that supports change management;
- To help develop connections, partnerships and mutual understanding with outside communities, groups and organizations;
- To arrange or support ceremonial, educational and other events, activities and opportunities that build reputation and relationships and are relevant to the University’s mission; and
- To support the achievement of the University mission by maintaining high standards of management and delivery.
In order to fulfil its mission, the Directorate is structured into the following units: a) international office, b) public relations and c) e-communication and marketing. The following sections deal with each of these units.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS OFFICE
Hawassa University is a comprehensive university with over 21,000 students and 2,500 employees. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses ranging from Medicine and Health Sciences, the Natural and Physical Sciences, Technology, Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management, to Law, Business, the Humanities and the Arts. The university has four campuses, four institutes and a teaching hospital.
The University is situated 275 kilo meters south of Addis Ababa. It is based in Hawassa city, which is one of the fastest developing cities in the country. Excellent town planning and scenery, make it the foremost choice for living and studying and as a tourist destination.
The International Relations Office or the International Office was founded in 2008 as a new unit of the Hawassa University to give a platform for the University's internationalization.
What we do?
We support project proposal writing, and arranging international workshops and conferences.
We facilitate student and staff mobility (e.g. providing information and advice, funding opportunities).
We initiate, promotes and maintains international contacts to universities, institutes, academics....
We administer international agreements and memoranda of understanding.
We prepare and distribute information about Hawassa University.
We help the University's fundraising effort from foundations, alumni etc ...
